Release notes

The ArcGIS Architecture Center and Well-Architected Framework will be updated multiple times a year, with smaller changes along with additions to the Architecture Library taking place between these larger updates.

This page captures notes on each update along with key changes and information relevant to users of these pages. Check this page in the future to keep track of additions, updates and changes.

April 5, 2024

• Addressed formatting, readability, and incorrect links based on user feedback submissions
• Added additional content and links to the Architecture Library
• Updates to the High availability (HA) page in the Architecture Practices section
• Added three new test studies presenting evaluated systems with physical architecture designs:
  • Network Management System: Gas Utility (SQL Server)
  • Network Management System: Gas Utility (SAP HANA)
  • Network Management System: Electric Utility (Oracle)

• Addressed formatting, readability, and incorrect links based on user feedback submissions
• Added additional content and links to the Library, and moved several performance-related tools from the Architecture Practices section to the Library
• Added clarifications to the following Architecture Practices sections: Software deployment automation, Infrastructure as code and DevOps, Define and capture telemetry, High availability, Zero trust architecture, and Backups and disaster recovery, and Load balancing and reverse proxies.
• Updated the Overview section for each Architecture Pillar
• Re-designed the site homepage
• Introduced the first Reference Architecture
• Updated the capability comparisons for System Patterns to reflect recent software releases

• Added observability considerations to deployment patterns across various System Patterns
• Improvements to the observability pillar in the Architecture Practices section
• Removed some spatial analysis capabilities from the location services system pattern to better reflect capabilities
• Added a redirect for the Architecting the ArcGIS System: Best Practices technical paper to a dedicated landing page
• Added additional resources to the Architecture Library
• Improved readability of the Architecture Library on mobile devices
• Minor updates to the system patterns and architecture practices pages for clarity and accuracy
