A system following the big data analytics pattern is available as a software as a service (SaaS) based deployment using ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Velocity.
The capabilities offered in this deployment pattern differ significantly from those available in big data analytics systems deployed on Apache Spark.
ArcGIS Velocity is a cloud-native add-on capability for ArcGIS Online. It enables users to ingest data from the Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, message brokers, or third-party APIs. It also helps users process, visualize, and analyze real-time data feeds; store those feeds as big data; and perform fast queries and analysis.
ArcGIS Velocity supports big data analysis against real-time data and observations that are stored, as well as on ingested data from feature layers and cloud-based data stores such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Cosmos DB. While ArcGIS Velocity on ArcGIS Online does deliver a big data analysis system as SaaS, ArcGIS Velocity is used primarily in conjunction with real-time data analysis. As such, the deployment details for ArcGIS Velocity are described in the real-time data streaming and analytics pattern as SaaS pattern.
